The Trumpet Shall Sound
Announcing the Return of Our God
Beloved,
Today is a high day — the Memorial of Blowing of Trumpets. The Lord commanded Israel to mark this day with the blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation, a memorial of the sound that would echo through all of redemptive history. The trumpet in Scripture is no ordinary sound: it announces the return of God, it gathers His elect, and it raises the dead in Christ. Let us rejoice and be glad in this day, for the trumpet shall sound, and the Lord Himself shall descend!
🎺 The Memorial of Blowing of Trumpets
📖 Leviticus 23:24 (KJV)
"Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation."
The Lord set apart this day as a memorial of blowing of trumpets — a holy convocation. It was a sabbath of rest and a day to remember that the trumpet would one day announce the coming of the Lord Himself.
📖 The Trumpet Announces God's Return
📖 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (KJV)
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord."
The trump of God heralds the return of the Lord. "The Lord himself shall descend from heaven" — and at that trumpet, the dead in Christ shall rise first, and the living shall be caught up together to meet the Lord in the air. This is the blessed hope the Memorial of Trumpets points us to.
📖 The Trumpet Gathers the Elect
📖 Matthew 24:31 (KJV)
"And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other."
The trumpet also gathers God's people. "He shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect" — from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. No saint will be forgotten; the trumpet will call home every one of the elect.
📌 Keep This High Day Holy
This Memorial of Blowing of Trumpets, rejoice! The trumpet that sounded at Sinai will sound again at the return of the Lord. Watch and be ready; keep the commandments of God (Exodus 20); endure unto the end (Matthew 24:13). For the trumpet shall sound, and we shall ever be with the Lord.
