Beloved,
May this Sabbath day bring you peace and rest in the LORD. Today we turn our hearts to a matter the world makes light of, but which God takes very seriously: mocking and making sport of others.
"Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour." — Proverbs 14:9 (KJV)

The Weight of Mocking: God Hears Every Scoff
📖 The Mocking of Elisha — 2 Kings 2:23-24 (KJV)
"And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them."
The children of Bethel thought nothing of mocking the prophet of God. They made a sport of him, calling him names to his face. But the LORD heard their scorn — and judgment fell swiftly. God does not take mocking lightly.
📖 The Mocking of Samson — Judges 16:23-30 (KJV)
"Then the lords of the Philistines gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice unto Dagon their god, and to rejoice: for they said, Our god hath delivered Samson our enemy into our hand... And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport..."
"And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes. And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood... And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life."
The Philistines captured Samson, blinded him, and then — in their arrogance — made sport of him before thousands. They laughed at a man of God in chains. But in the hour of their rejoicing, the LORD remembered His servant. Samson pulled down the house upon three thousand mockers — and the laughter turned to death. We Shall Be Judged — Matthew 12:36-37 (KJV) states: "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."
📖 Have You Been Mocked? You Are Not Alone — Hebrews 11:1-2, 36-40 (KJV)
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report."
"And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect."
📖 Nothing Can Separate You — Romans 8:35-39 (KJV)
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?... Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
If you have been mocked, bullied, or abused — hear this: you are not alone. The prophets, the faithful, even the heroes of faith endured cruel mockings. The writer of Hebrews declares that the world was not worthy of such ones. And though others may scorn you, nothing — neither persecution, nor distress, nor any creature — can separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. He sees. He hears. He will repay.
And to those who mock: repent. The children of Bethel learned too late. The Philistines learned too late. But you have today. Turn from your scoffing, seek the LORD, and find mercy while it may be found.
