"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy." β Exodus 20:8 (KJV)
Beloved,
This Sabbath we consider The Connection: From Adam's Mistrust to Jesus' Trust. God created humanity in connection with Himself. Adam's mistrust of God led to disobedience, introducing sin, death, and separation. Yet humanity remained connected through its common origin in Adam. Jesus willingly surrendered His divine existence to enter that human connection β and where Adam mistrusted God, Jesus trusted the Father completely, even unto death. Through Jesus, humanity's connection to the Father can be restored.
This week's message was written by sister Jori Montgomery.
π This Sabbath's Message
The Connection: From Adam's Mistrust to Jesus' Trust written by sister Jori Montgomery
1. God created humanity from one human origin
π Genesis 2:7 (KJV)
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
π Acts 17:26 (KJV)
And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth...
Humanity shares a common origin β the Bible describes us as coming from one.
2. Adam's mistrust preceded his disobedience
π Genesis 3:4-5 (KJV)
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
π Romans 5:12 (KJV)
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
π Romans 5:19 (KJV)
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
The serpent persuaded Eve to question both God's truthfulness and His intentions. Mistrust was the underlying spiritual problem; disobedience was its outward manifestation.
3. The promise of restoration
π Genesis 3:15 (KJV)
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
God announced the offspring who would defeat the serpent β His redemptive purpose revealed from the beginning.
4. Jesus entered the same human family He came to restore
π John 1:1 (KJV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
π John 1:14 (KJV)
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us...
π John 17:5 (KJV)
And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
π Philippians 2:6-8 (KJV)
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
π Hebrews 2:14 (KJV)
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
These passages support Christ's preexistence and His willing entrance into humanity β He emptied Himself and became genuinely human to accomplish reconciliation.
5. Jesus faced the same fundamental question as Adam: Would He trust God?
π Matthew 4:3-4 (KJV)
And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
π Hebrews 5:8 (KJV)
Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
In Eden the serpent challenged God's word; in the wilderness Satan again challenged God's word and Jesus' identity. Adam failed to obey, while Jesus remained obedient even when obedience involved suffering.
6. Jesus trusted the Father even when facing death
π Matthew 26:39 (KJV)
O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
π Luke 23:46 (KJV)
Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit...
Where Adam acted contrary to God's instruction, Jesus surrendered His own will in obedience to the Father. Trust is central to restoring humanity's relationship with God.
7. Jesus died because sin brought death into the world
π Romans 6:23 (KJV)
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
π 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 (KJV)
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
Jesus had to experience human mortality because death entered humanity through sin β yet He laid down His life of Himself (John 10:18).
8. God raised and exalted Him
π Acts 2:24 (KJV)
Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
π Philippians 2:9 (KJV)
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Jesus entrusted Himself to the Father, and the Father raised Him and restored Him to the glory He had willingly surrendered.
9. Through Jesus, humanity is reconciled to the Father
π 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 (KJV)
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them...
Jesus is the connecting link between humanity and the Father β the mediator who makes reconciliation possible.

"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."
Adam mistrusted God, resulting in disobedience and death. Jesus trusted God, resulting in obedience and life. God raised Him, and through Him humanity can be reconciled to the Father. This Sabbath, look unto Jesus β the author and finisher of our faith.
