Beloved,

On this holy Sabbath day we turn to a sobering truth from God's Word. The title of this week's message is the scripture itself:

If Ye Be Without Chastisement

— Hebrews 12:8 (KJV)

Hebrews 12:8 warns us that those who are not corrected and taught of the Lord through chastening are not His sons — they are, in God's own words, "bastards." And Deuteronomy 23:2 declares plainly that such shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD. This is not a light matter. Our Father in heaven chastens every son whom He receives; where there is no chastening, there is no sonship. Let us search our hearts today.

📜 This Sabbath's Message

If Ye Be Without Chastisement: Chastened Sons or Without Correction?

1. What is a Bastard according to God's Word?

📖 Hebrews 12:7-8 — Hebrews 12:7-8 (KJV)

"If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons: for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons."

A bastard, by God's definition, is one who is without chastisement. The Lord disciplines every son He receives. If you have never been corrected, trained, or chastened of the Lord, the Word says you are not yet a son. The trial and correction you endure is not proof God has forsaken you — it is proof you belong to Him.

2. What is Chastisement according to God's Word — and Why are we being chastised?

Chastisement is the act of instructing through trials — because of our refusal to be obedient to God, because we seek our own way, and because we walk in the flesh and not in the Spirit. The LORD corrects those He loves to turn them back to Himself.

"Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law;"

"And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein; But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:"

📖 Isaiah 65:2-6 — Isaiah 65:2-6 (KJV)

"I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts; A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick; Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine's flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels; Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day. Behold, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom,"

📖 Proverbs 3:11-12 — Proverbs 3:11-12 (KJV)

"My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction: For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth."

3. What is the future of those that go without chastisement?

📖 Deuteronomy 23:2 — Deuteronomy 23:2 (KJV)

"A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation shall he not enter into the congregation of the LORD."

The consequence is eternally serious: no entry into the congregation of the LORD. Where the Father refuses to correct, sonship is absent — and so is the inheritance.

4. What will happen to those that walk after the flesh and not after the Spirit?

📖 Galatians 5:16-21 — Galatians 5:16-21 (KJV)

"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh... Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before... that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

5. So how can I walk in the fruit of the Spirit?

📖 Galatians 5:22-23, 25 — Galatians 5:22-23, 25 (KJV)

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law... If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."

The answer is not trying harder in the flesh — it is walking in the Spirit. As we yield to the Spirit, the flesh loses its grip, and the fruit of God's nature grows in us.

6. Who else will NOT inherit the kingdom of God?

📖 Revelation 22:14-15 — Revelation 22:14-15 (KJV)

"Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie."

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God."

📖 Revelation 21:8 — Revelation 21:8 (KJV)

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

7. Closing — Our Father Chastens Us Because He Loves Us

Beloved, although we are chastised and corrected, it is because our Father God loves us. We must wake up and learn the lessons our Father is teaching us through our trials of correction, repent, and walk according to God's Word.

"Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not... We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;"

"Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD. Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens."
